Description
The International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) Emerging Choreographer Residency is a new program aimed at supporting the professional development and engagement of emerging and early-career choreographers.
A single choreographer will be selected and paired with a mentor within the Black Dance Sector, and receive a one-week residency during the Conference and Festival, resulting in a work-in-progress showing and Q&A. The selected artist can bring up to eight dancers to accompany them at this year’s 35th annual Conference and Festival, in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to the residency the artist will be required to attend three mentorship meetings that will occur once a month October 2024-December 2024. During the week of the residency, January 19 – January 25, IABD will provide on-site rehearsal space, in addition to covering hotel and flight accommodations, and the Conference and Festival attendance fee. Upon completion of the residency the selected artist, dancers, and mentor will receive a participation stipend.
