After 7 years of absence in France, the prestigious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater company is making its comeback on stage from October 18 to 26, 2024 at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.
Founded in 1958 by Mr. Alvin Ailey, the New York company, described as “an essential ambassador of American culture around the world,” has become a formidable breeding ground for talent. Particularly committed to celebrating African-American culture, the company has enjoyed successes that have become essential in the world of modern dance while continuing to commission ballets from contemporary choreographers. During 11 exceptional performances in Paris, 32 dancers will perform on stage the legendary ballets that have made the company famous throughout the world and new works, never before presented in France.
Two programs will be presented alternately:
PROGRAM A, composed of unpublished works ( Me, Myself and You by Elizabeth Roxas-Dobrish, CENTURY by Amy Hall Garner) and Survivors by Alvin Ailey and Mary Barnett; PROGRAM B, composed of works that have already met with great success ( Following the Subtle Current Upstream by Alonzo King and Dancing Spirit by Ronald K. Brown).
Alvin Ailey's iconic ballet Revelations will be featured in both programs so that everyone can (re)discover the emotional power generated by this masterpiece of modern dance.
